I recently had a neat experience and wanted to share it with you today.
Almost a year ago we moved to a new area, and the transition of switching all my doctors, and specialists has not been an easy task. This particular day I had several appointments in Atlanta and was majorly dreading the commute into the City this time of day.
As I leave our small country area, of course, the traffic is light and manageable. I noticed a semi truck, and generally, I do not like riding behind anything I can’t see past. What initially caught my attention on this large truck was it had a lighthouse on it, and the name was “Beacon.” Then further what kept my attention was the attentiveness and what a cautious driver he was. I pretty much stayed with him the entire way and even if several cars came between us in passing or stayed briefly between us I would always look for that lighthouse or the words “Beacon.”
I know it may sound silly, but as the traffic started getting crazier the closer to the City, I was comforted by continuing to draw near to this semi truck. After THREE long hours stuck in traffic, I was nearing the exit and was finally able to have eye contact with this older gentleman. He smiled, waved at me with a nod; it was seriously as if he knew his driving through all this mess the entire trip made me feel safer in some way and was calming to me on such a morning of physical struggling.
I had stared at the word “Beacon” so long that morning that during my appointments and the long wait between them, I started researching . . . . “Beacon” and “Lighthouses.”
Definition Of Beacon:::
A strong light that can be seen from far away and that is used to help guide ships, airplanes, etc.
***A lighthouse is an example of a Beacon.
***The lights of a runway are an example of a Beacon for a landing plane.
***My favorite one: A friend who offers comfort, direction and guidance is an example of a Beacon for someone in a time of need.
A Few Bible Verses: ( I encourage you to dig deeper on your own on this subject)
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. (let that soak in “a city set on a hill cannot be hidden”)
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
The more I research this subject I feel we should ALL be Beacons Of Hope, encouragement, love, kindness, someone’s safety net, help guide someone home, a Godly example, light in a time of darkness, etc.
Taking it even further I have always been intrigued by the beauty of a lighthouse, and it wasn’t until I researched that I learned of the magnitude that these men and women sacrificed to live this secluded lifestyle and the pride that they took in their job of being a Beacon for others.
Yes, the majority of lighthouses are now automated, but there are still some that have a physical person maintaining the premises. I was blown away by the details of what it consists of, but it made me think of this analogy with our Christian walk. We have to nurture and maintain it as well to be the best “Beacon” possible.
My Beacon Of Hope Conclusion:
I believe we all have a choice to make with regards to our rescue work and being “Beacons Of Hope.” We can choose to become comfortable, and we can find ourselves content in our own little world/lives. Often we may find that we have even turned out our beacon of hope for one another.
Well, I am here to remind you to SHINE BRIGHT, spread hope, love, joy and the good news of Jesus Christ. I pray right now that we find ourselves lighting and saving the path of others to help them light their way in this dark world.
This little light of mine . . . I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
Please join me.
God Bless You,
